Jeff was Head of Policy for the Mental Health Act Commission and the main author of the Commission's Seventh and Eighth Biennial Reports. He is now a visiting Mental Health Act Commissioner with the Care Quality Commission. He is also a member of the Mental Health Review and Care Standards Tribunals. He has contributed three chapters in a book "Understanding Treatment Without Consent: the Changing Role of the Mental Health Act Commission", published by Ashgate in October 2007. He was an Associate Lecturer (Social Care, Social Work and the Law ) with the Open University and revised the materials for Open University Workbook on the Law and Vulnerable Adults published in 2006.
William Bingley
William was Legal Director of Mind, Chief Executive of the Mental Health
Act Commission and Professor of Mental Health Law and Ethics at the University
of Central Lancashire. He is Chairman of Morecambe Bay Primary Care Trust,
a trustee of MIND in Furness and Chief Executive of the Abaseen Foundation,
a charity developing health care in North West Pakistan. He is a director
of Bingley Consulting, which undertakes work in the NHS and independent
sectors.
Lesley Cohen
Lesley is Head of Psychology (Forensic Division) in Nottinghamshire Healthcare
Trust. She is a Consultant Clinical and Forensic Psychologist with a high
level of experience and expertise in forensic clinical work, mental health
service development and psycho-legal assessment. She was Chair of the
Division of Clinical Psychology of the British Psychological Society at
the time the government were consulting on the proposals for “Managing
Dangerous People with Severe Personality Disorder”.
Peter Bullimore
Peter used to be a successful businessman. But
after being diagnosed with schizophrenia he became a "revolving door"
patient for eight years. Yet after attending a self-help group for voice-hearers
he found a route to recovery. Peter is no longer a schizophrenic. He's
a voice-hearer, dedicating his time working for three organisations. He
is chair of Sheffield's Hearing Voices Network, business manager for Asylum,
a magazine for democratic psychiatry, and co-founder of the Sheffield-based
Paranoia Network, a self-help organisation for people experiencing extreme
paranoia, aka delusions. He is internationally known for his work and
in 2011 ran a series of training workshops in Australia.
Dr Bob Diamond
Bob is currently Consultant and Lead Clinical Psychologist
for Adult Mental Health Nottinghamshire Healthcare Trust. He has over
20 years experience as a clinical psychologist in the NHS, most of that
time spent with people experiencing severely disturbing experiences that
are often described by mental health services as psychosis. He regularly
provides teaching and training to a broad range of NHS staff. He has a
particular interest in developing and promoting meaningful, supportive
relationships and services that assist people whenever possible to develop
an active purposeful way forward in life. He has a number of related publications
and is currently co-authoring a book entitled 'Psychosis in context'.
